October 2019

My October already. I’m way behind in writing up both the journal and my cache find logs.
General plot though was that I enjoyed the time in Scotland though some of the driving was tough moving from the Inverness area to some of the West coast areas.

Eventually deciding to head home and drop in on the Geolympix primer event at Stowe Landscape gardens. Great to visit Stowe once again and to see the location where the actual Mega event will be held.
I slept near Manchester the night before and it was torrential rain during the night but I was informed it was dry near Stowe. A small part of the journey was dry but when it was time to walk to the temple it of course started once again. Quite a good turnout for the event though.

I had a couple of days at home and then someone decided to reduce me to two counties on the Geome game.

Snowdonia area looked good to try for a recovery effort so I was mobilised once again.
Some tough terrain for both my walking and for the van at times but I managed to get back in the lead at Geome.

Next prospective interest was near Skegness god that was hell of a drive and wet for much of it once again. It reminded me of the Skeg to Ness driving caching trail though that I did a few years ago.

Rug pulled from under my feet for that county though. Tried for a few other counties but only got lucky with one. Being in the lead was short lived though as I was soon knocked back down to three counties once again.

Time to get back to normal caching I feel and only do Geome if chance and area greatly appeal.

I enjoyed my short visit to Linhope Spout.
One for our balloonist from Oxfordshire .
Must appeal to Simply Paul.
My memory is bad. I’d forgotten I had been here in 2017 until I saw some smiley faces on the GPSr screen.
Dundee Law.
Cache and tower behind a locked gate.
My sleepover place last night Layby 81 A9. I’s worth a Google search.
None yet so perhaps better drive quick. What it didn’t say was it was a gated forest road seven miles long.
I was trying to make up a ditty of how far to Farr.
It was a long drive between my chosen points but quite a nice journey break here.
Quite a surprise building adornment.
Party time on this road to almost nowhere.
I could walk many streets if they were equal to this.
Finally passed through Gretna Green in daytime.
This was a tight return walk. A long walk with a lot of elevation change. Such a windy route that the GPSr said 1.1 miles to the cache for most of the route.
Well someone has to be top in size with their painted stones they were about 2ft diameter.

21st to 25th October

Out on the Geome trail again. I had spotted that a cache in Hertfordshire was creeping up to a value equal to the one already on the league table. So it was time to try to intercept that one as it crept in front.

After doing a few caches in the area I geared myself up for buying a pizza rather than cooking myself. Pizza man said my £20 notes were too ancient to spend so it did turn out that I would have to cook.

I gained Hertfordshire early in the morning then started a few caches nearby. Looks a nice long wherigo but perhaps not one for doing in the camper van. It crashed out on me at stage 3 when I couldn’t answer the question because of muggles it would not let me save the game either so will give it a visit in the car at some stage.

Time to move on to Essex as I believe I can improve the score there. Managed to boost the score twice in Essex then when the rain set in it was time to return to Hertfordshire get back to the ones the wherigo had taken me off course of and another Geome one which was creeping up in score.

30th October

A day that has been long awaited has arrived.
The day to complete my personal challenge to fill the wole calendar grid with caches found on their anniversary of placement.

May be I’ll eventually write more on the challenge under the personal challenges tab.
