April 2017

5th April

Oh I do like the names of some of our villages. I was tickled by Golden Pot when I started working in that area and just had to set a cache there, my that been out a few years now.

The quirky village name today was Free Folk which was the parking suggestion for a 6 mile walk. I think the village host the most adjoined thatched cottages I’ve ever seen too.

Survived the long walk and then move a few miles and did a long multi and some other caches before coming home just as it got dark.

6th April

Whilst travelling between the caches yesterday my system alerted me that I had flagged the Harewood Hike series up to do as it might help me with GC6WZWV

After yesterday’s hike and some computing it was early this morning before I got to bed so today wasn’t too early a start after a can I do the long walk today.

Took the yes lets get it over with and started the walk from the Longparish parking at 10am.

A hot day so the question of what to wear and that is why I don’t like long walks. I usually overdress and regret it, or under dress and dislike the chill.

End result was I survived the walk but was fairly tired by the end.

A fair variety of containers and hides and just 2 DNF’s

7th April

Three longish walks in three days, I’ll either end up fit or knackered. Today is birthday caches again on  the Stancombe Scramble near Alton.

My day was topped off by finding a few challenge caches which re-kindled some of my travels over the last few years.

Tired but went home pleased with what I had achieved.

8th April

Well the call went out a few weeks ago; an invite to join a CO on a maintenance run on some tree climb caches amonst some more regular ones too.

Ah a few puzzles to solve first though. As usual not enough time in the day and often not enough steam in my aging computer or limited broadband.
At least once at 3am the baby went out the pram when things all crashed out and I just wanted to get some kip.

The maintenance trip was on a work day(night) too couuld I do it?

With a little help on occasions the puzzles were solved.
The journey, assembly and set off of the party all went well.
I personally did the lock to lock walk then retreated just leaving one or two caches that can be accessed from another road on another day.
Still quite a walk back to the car but my timings looked good.

If I had been comfortable leaving work gear in the car the work would have been just along the river a little. Not happy doing that meant it was a lot more driving but my timings worked out well.

Another enjoyable day in good company.

13th April

Oh dear starting the day with a proverbial cock up. Intended making a very early event today Dönerstag @ Dawn but didn’t leave the house soon enough and hit the location after event dispersal.

Had originally planed to do a 7 mile walk after the event but now the emphasis has changed to attending an evening event decided to stay closer to the car and perhaps be less tired at the end of this long day.

So with Andover town very quiet and taking advantage of the free parking it was ideal for completing some of the caches in the town.

Then drifted away from the town doing a few church micros and one longer walk along the Test Way.

A brief stop at home then on to the evening event Where in the World is Signal the Frog which was quite enjoyable and should earn me the souvenir.

15th April

After the long day on Thursday yesterday was a short one 10am to 10pm but almost all of it consumed on writing up logs. Too shattered at the end of it to really plan anything for today so wnt for the Parnholt series that I had deferred on Thursday. Then headed south with the focus on a challenge cache. That was quite a walk on it’s own but I just kept walking and picked up another 10 or so caches before reaching the van again.

The general location gave me a chance to check and maintain my Homework Session – Tuesday cache as well.

Quite a satisfying day.

21st April

Originally I thought I might have another couple of days working off the Kent list with the hope of going yesterday. Things didn’t work out though so no caching yesterday. Now to better shedule something to enable getting to Cherhill on Sunday for the Chalking of the horse.

What have I marked to do in that general direction? Most noticeable was the DSW series a little longer than I’ve done in a while @ 15 miles.
Well with a share in a 3 week hire of a camper van in America later in the year secured and payed for and an equal length trip to Scotland on my own perhaps I need a few pushes of the comfort zone to get me ready for those.

Not away as early as I sometime are but started the walk around 9.30 am. The day not quite as nice as yesterday and thet is part of my dislike of long walks wat to wear to suit the span of the long day. Opted for a warmish jacket but a couple of caches in woondered if that was the right decision, overall probably yes but difficult to predict.

I’m never the quickest walker as often is driven home when a girl with a nice arse passes me and I think yeah I’ll watch that for a while, oh too soon she is way in the distance though since she walks two or three times faster than me.

Not fast but glad I wasn’t any slower, Garmin turned to night colours for the last three caches notating he thought it was bed time.

Now where to sleep. Stonehenge only a few miles away sounds known and apt.

22nd April

After yesterday’s long walk and the sleepover at Stonehenge was a little uncertain how today would pan out as I’d not particularly planned anything in detail.

Started on a multi which looked as if it dive off to a few seperated points and first considered just recording the first stages and then visiting the other spots when I was nearby but then oh lets follow it through.
After that first location it was evident I was to pass an earthcache so made a quick stopoff well April is the month associated with cuckoo’s after all.

Most of the day was spent around Amesbury doing two long multi’s and fitting in some trads too.

Then it was up a few miles to maintain my Homework Session – Friday cache and a sleepover at Calne.

23rd April

The main object today was to attend two CITO events.
Picked up three  physical caches ahead of the CITO’s which were also quite physical.

Chalking the Horse at Cherhill a large assembly of scouts/cabs/public and geocachers soon shifted a huge amount of chalk from pallets at the top of the hill down onto the horse carving.

Great fun to both do some of the work and also to see the enthusiasm of all the other helpers young and old alike.

Then it was time to dash back to Baughurst for our regular yearly litter pick.

29th April

My caching of late is taking on a pushing of the boundaries. Having done the 15 mile series last week another similar bag in the last two days of the month would give me my highest ever monthly count and possibly qualify for another challenge.

So I’m headed to Amesbury for the AWD series a claimed 14 miles and though not hitting it at first light I’m not too far behind today.

All went well, I’m still not too quick but was back ahead of darkness today but still very tired at the end. Dark though by the time I had cooked dinner and was ready to move off from the parking.

30th April

Caching again in the Amesbury area. Started the day with a puzzle I had quickly solved yesterday.

An Earthcache and a few others sought then around noon had a call in to work how will they cope when I retire?
